2、visittotheU.K.,IhavetosaythatIamgladthisismyfirstofficialvisit.ThespecialrelationshipbetweentheUnitedStatesandtheU.K.isbasednotonlyontherelationshipbetweengovernments,butthecommonlanguageandthevaluesthatweshare.AndI'mremindedofthatbywatchingyoualltoday.DuringmyvisitI'

5、hinginmylife'spathwouldhavepredictedthatI'dbestandinghereasthefirstAfrican-AmericanFirstLadyoftheUnitedStatesofAmerica.Thereisnothinginmystorythatwouldlandmehere.Iwasn'traisedwithwealthorresourcesoranysocialstandingtospeakof.IwasraisedontheSouthSideofChicago.That'sthe
6、realpartofChicago.AndIwastheproductofaworking-classcommunity.Myfatherwasacityworkerallofhislife.Andmymotherwasastay-at-homemom.Andshestayedathometotakecareofmeandmyolderbrother.Neitherofthemattendeduniversity.Mydadwasdiagnosedwithmultiplesclerosisintheprimeofhislife.B
7、utevenasitgotharderforhimtowalkandgetdressedinthemorning--Isawhimstrugglemoreandmore--myfathernevercomplainedabouthisstruggle.Hewasgratefulforwhathehad.Hejustwokeupalittleearlierandworkedalittleharder.AndmybrotherandIwereraisedwithallthatyoureallyneed:love,strongvalue
