3、cutiveSummaryExecutiveSummaryKnowledgeisconsideredasaneconomicdriverintoday’seconomy,ithasbe-comeacommoditythatcanbepacked,boughtandsold.Thisevolutionhasbeenenhancedbybythedevelopmentofinformationandcommunicationtech-nologies(ICTs)thathavereducedthecostofgathe
4、ringanddisseminatingknowl-edge.Thecontributionofknowledgetoinnovationhasbeenachievedmostnotablybyreducingtransactioncostsbetweencompaniesandotheractors,especiallyinareassuchasinformationsearchandbuying.Aknowledge-basedeconomyisdefinedasaneconomydirectlybasedon
5、theproduction,distributionanduseofknowledge.Insucheconomiesthereisahighdegreeofconnectivitybetweentheagentsinvolved,andknowledgeiswidelyusedandexploitedinallmannerofeconomicactivity.Wehavenowprogressedfromtheknowledge-basedeconomytotheknowledge-driveneconomy,e
6、mphasisingthefactthatthecurrentcontributionofknowledgeisverymuchasthedynamoofoureconomy.Theknowledge-driveneconomybringsnewchallengesforbusiness.Marketsarebecomingmoreglobalwithnewcompetitors,productlifecyclesareshorten-ing,customersaremoredemandingandthecompl
7、exityoftechnologyisin-creasing.Sowhiletheknowledgeeconomyrepresentsnewopportunities,certainactionsareneededtosupportandtakeadvantageofthesedevelopments.TheimportanceofinnovationTheknowledge-driveneconomyaffectstheinnovationprocessandtheapproachtoinnovation.The
