1、IntroductionNowadays,EFL(EnglishasaForeignLanguage)learningispervadinginChina,butthemasteryofEnglishisnotaneasyjob.Teachersareaccustomedtoaquietclassatmosphere.Theydomostofthetalks,butseldominteractwithstudentsandmuchoverlookstudents’reactionsandresponses.Studentsh
2、avegotfewopportunitiestotakepartininteractiveactivities,sotheyhavetokeepsilent.Theyareinapassiverole,andtheyarecompletelydominatedbytheteacher,whichleadstothelackofinteraction.ThisoutdatedmethodnolongermeetstheneedsofEnglishteaching.Therefore,itisurgentandnecessary
3、forteacherstofindoutaneffectivewaytotransferthetraditionalteachingmethodintoanupdatedteachingstylewhichreckonsstudentsasthemainbodyoflearningandemphasizesinteractiveactivities.Interactiveteachingisnotsomethingnewormysteriousandithasdevelopedinrecentdecades.Itindica
4、testhatteachersgobeyondlanguagestructuresanddevelopstudents’communicativecompetencethroughinteraction.Itneedstheinteractionofsensitiveteacherstointeractandchallengestudents.AccordingtoWilgaM.Rivers,(Brown,2001,p.225)interactionrefersto“studentsachievefacilityinusin
5、galanguagewhentheirattentionisfocusedonconveyingandreceivingauthenticmessage.”Itisthecollaborativeexchangeofthoughts,feelings,orideasbetweentwoormorepeopleresultinginareciprocaleffortoneachother.Studentscanbenefitfrominteractiveteachinginmanyways.Throughinteraction
6、,studentscanincreasetheirlanguagestoreastheylistentoorreadauthenticlinguisticmaterial,oreventheoutputoftheirfellowstudentsindiscussions,problem-solvingtasks,ordialogues.Interactionincreasesthecomprehensiblelinguisticinputandoutput.Asaresult,itimprovestheopportunity
