2、rswereconfirmedallatonce.IhadopenedPandora’sBoxtoastandingovationandalmostsimultaneously,alevelofcritiqueIhadneverexperiencedinmylifeandthebeginningofwhatwouldbecomeaseriesofthreats.Thelasttwoyearshavebeenabaptismoffire,tosaytheleast,whereIlearnedjusthowlittleIknowandalsohowmuch.Itwasmyscaryfirstste
3、pasanactivist,awordIneverimaginedthatIwouldusetodescribemyself.So,readingtheapplicationsofactivistswhoapplyhereforOneYoungWorldscholarshipswassurprisingtome.HereIwas,readingthestoriesofpeoplefromnearly200differentcountriesfromaroundtheworldwithexperiencesthatIcouldn’tevenimagine.Imean,Ireallyjust–th
4、eyweresooutofthisworldtome.Andyet,theirnoteslooklikemynotes.Thesamethemesemergedoverandoverandoveragain.TherewassomuchoverlapwiththethingsthatIhadbeenthinkingaboutandthatIhadbeenstrugglingwithbecausethetruthis,ithadneverbeenaboutbeinganactivist.Itwasaboutthechoicetomakemyselfvisibleandthechoicesthat
5、youmadetodothat,too.Apartfromthesignificantprogresstheworldhasmadeinthecauseforequality,thebestthingaboutthelasttwoyearshasbeenthis:findingpeoplefromsuchdisparateexperiencesandcommunitiesthatIfoundthatIhavesomethingincommonwith.Thisisacommunityofartists,spiritualteachers,dreamers,thinkers,doers,whow
6、orktogetherandsupporteachother.Forthefirsttimeinmylife,Ifoundmysisterhood,abrotherhood,whatever,howeveryouwanttodescribeit.Ifoundmytribe.Myhopeforyouwhileyou’rehereisthatyouwillfindsomeofyourtribe,too.Ireallyneededmine.BobbyKennedy,whenhewassenatorforNewYorksaid,“Eachtime,amanorwomanstandsupforanide
