2、invariousjudgementsas"averystrangeinstrument"and"absurdandincoherent".Thischangehadbeenresistedformanyyearsbecauseitwasfeltthatitmightleadtouncertainty;theS.G.PolicyhadbeenconsideredbytheCourtsonmanyoccasionssothattheeffectofthewords,howeverarchaic,wasfelttobewellu

3、nderstood.Theclearandaccuratedraftingofthe1982Clausesputthesefearstorestandtherehasbeenremarkablylittlelitigationregardingcoverageintheinterveningyears.However,nothingstaysperfectforeverandtheJointCargoCommittee(madeupofmembersoftheInternationalUnderwritingAssociat

4、ionandtheLloydsMarketAssociation)istobecommendedfortakingonthetaskofreviewingandupdatingtheseclauseswhicharesoimportanttotheInternationalCommercialCommunity.2.TheprocessofrevisionwasstartedinFebruary2006whentheLMAsentoutaquestionnairetointerestedpartiesandtheJointC

5、argoCommitteesetupaWorkingPartychairedbyNicholasGooding.AfteranalysingtheresponsestothequestionnairetheWorkingPartyproducedadetailedconsultationdocument(withGuidanceNotespreparedbyClyde&Co.)whichwasdistributedtotheworldwidecargomarketsinMay2008.Reviseddraftswerecir
