4、amicalresponse.ThefundamentaldesigncriteriaforfastMRvalvesarediscussedandanexperi-mentalvalvedesignedforhighfrequencyactuationisanalyzed.ItisshowntheperformancefiguresgenerallyreportedforMRtechnologycanbesignificantlyimproved.Theresultsshowasteppressurediffe

5、renceof7MPacanbecontrolledwithare-sponsetimeof0.7ms.Themaximumrateofchangeforcon-trollablepressurewasmeasuredtoachieve20.2MPainonemil-lisecond.INTRODUCTIONMagnetorheological(MR)fluidsbelongtothegroupofsmartmaterialswhoserheologicalpropertiescanbevariedbyind

6、ucingamagneticfieldtothefluid.MRfluidshaveprovenasapromisingtechnologyforsemiactivedampersandapplicationsinmotioncontrolsystemshavebeenresearched.TheresponsetimeofmagnetorheologicaltechnologyiscommonlyconsideredfastandtheimportanceofgooddynamicpropertiesofMRd

7、e-vicesareemphasizedinvibrationcontrolapplications.[1–3]MRfluidsconsistofmagneticallysoftironparticlesmixedintocarrierfluidwhichcanbemineraloil,forexample.Uponapplicationofamagneticfieldtheironparticlesformcolumnarstructuresalongthefieldlines.Theorientationand
