3、respectiveresponsibilitiessimplyandsafely.Insodoingtheyeliminateanypossibilityofmisunderstandingandsubsequentdispute.ThepurposeofIncotermsistoprovideasetofinternationalrulesfortheinterpretationofthemostcommonlyusedtradetermsinforeigntrade.Thus,theuncertai
4、ntiesofdifferentinterpretationsofsuchtermsindifferentcountriescanbeavoidedoratleastreducedtoaconsiderabledegree.Frequentlypartiestoacontractareunawareofthedifferenttradingpracticesintherespectivecountriesoftheirpartners.Thiscangiverisetomisunderstandings,
5、disputesandlitigationwithallthewasteoftimeandmoneythatthisentails.Inordertoremedytheseproblems,theInternationalChamberofCommercefirstpublishedin1936asetofinternationalrulesfortheinterpretationoftradeterms.TheseruleswereknownasIncoterms1936.Amendmentsandad
6、ditionswerelatermadein1953,1967,1976,1980,1990andpresently2000inordertobringtherulesinlinewithcurrentinternationaltradepractices.Incotermshavebeenrevisedtotakeaccountofchangesintransportationtechniques,suchastheunitizationofcargoincontainers,multimodaltra
7、nsportandrollon-rollofftrafficwithroadvehiclesandrailwaywagonsin“short-sea”maritimetransport-----certaintermshavebeenconsolidatedandrearranged-----andtorenderthemfullycompatiblewithnewdevelopmentsinelectronicdatainterchange(EDI).Themainreasonforthe1990rev
