2、engthandmoduluspropertiesoffiberreinforcedcompositeswiththeadvantagesofthereactioninjectionmoldingprocess.Alongwiththeprocess,anewreactiveresinhasbeendevelopedexpresslyforthestructuralRIMprocess.WiththenewresinandSRIMprocessconventionaldesignmethodscanbeused,bu
3、tthedesignermustalsoconsiderseveralfacetsofthestructuralRIMprocess.INTRODUCTIONwithshapecanbelight,yetverystrong.Beadsandlipsonpartsaddstiffness.Morecomplicateddesigns,Structuralreactioninjectionmolding(SRIM)isarel-suchaschannels,bosses,ribs,andcylinders,maybea
4、tivelynewprocesscombiningthehighproductionratesmoldedusingpreformedreinforcements.ComplicatedofRIMwiththestrong,highmoduluspropertiesfordesignsmaybeeliminatedusinginnovativeengineer-partsmadebyRIM.StructuralRIMusesconventionalingdesigntechniques.RIMprocessingeq
5、uipmentandmolds.Unlike"ure-thane"RIM,longreinforcingfiberscanbeusedforSRIM,yieldingincreasedstiffness,toughness,andSTRUCTURALREACTIONINJECTIONstrength.StructuralRIMmaterialsarerelativelylowMOLDINGinviscosity,permittingrapidmoldfillingwithoutdis-turbingtheprepla
6、cedreinforcement.Inaddition,SRIMStructuralRIMcombinesthestrong,highmodulusmaterialscanbeformulatedtoreactfastforhighpro-propertiesofpolymer/fiberreinforcedcompositeswithductionrates.thehighproductionratesandeaseofRIM.Like(RTM),Asthenameimplies,SRIMcompositesare
7、stronger(SMC),andpre-impregnatedmolding,SRIMuseslongandmorerigidthanurethanepartsmadeusingcon-reinforcingfibersforhighstrengthandmodulus.ventionalRIM.StrengthsandmoduliofcommonSRIMStructuralRIMuseslowviscosityreactantsthatcancompositesaretwototenormoretimesthes
