3、tion/extractioncapacity,excellentcyclingability,andpromisingratecapabilityforsodium-ionbatteryapplications.Theresultingimprovedelectricalcapacityandrecharginglifetimeofthenanowiresmakesthemapromisingcandidatetoconstructaviableandlow-costNa-ionbatterysystemforupcomingpowerand
4、energystoragesystems,theteamconcludesinapaperpublishedinthejournalAdvancedMaterials.Toconnectintermittentrenewableenergysources(i.e.,solarandwind)withvariableoutputtotheelectricalgrid,gridmanagersrequireelectricalenergystoragesystems(EES)thatcanaccommodatelargeamountsofenerg
5、ycreatedatthesource.(Earlierpost.)Lithium-ionrechargeablebatteriesperformwell,butaretooexpensiveforwidespreaduseonthegrid.Sodiumisseenbysomeasapromisingalternative,butthesodium-sulfurbatteriescurrentlyinuserunattemperaturesabove300°C,makingthemlessenergyefficientandsafethanb
6、atteriesthatrunatambienttemperatures.Sodium-ionbatterieshavebeendiscussedintheliteratureforsometime.AbatterythatusesNaionsinsteadofLiionsisattractivebecauseitcouldpotentiallybemuchlessexpensiveandsafer,anditwouldbemoreenvironmentallybenign.ANaionintercalationandstoragemechan
