6、ontainsignificantquantitiesoftightoil,gas,andmixedhydrocarbons.TheMarcellusaloneisestimatedtocontainupwardsof500trillioncubicfeetofnaturalgas.Theextractionofthesedepositsisfacilitatedbyacombinationofhorizontaldrillingandslickwaterstimulation(e.g.,hydraulicfracturing)or“fr
7、acking.”Theprocessoffrackingrequireslargevolumesofwater,proppant,andchemicalsaswellasalargewellpad(3–7acres)andanextensivenetworkofgatheringandtransmissionpipelines.Drillingcangenerateabout1,000tonsofdrillcuttingsdependingonthedepthoftheformationandthelengthofthehorizont
