3、dersandReceiversCommunicationinvolvespeoplewhosendorreceivemessages.Assendersweformmessagesandattempttocommunicatethemtoothersthroughverbalandnonverbalsymbols.Asreceivers,weprocessthemessagessenttousandreacttothembothverballyandnonverbally.Sometimes,-asinface-to-fa
4、cecommunication-wemaysendandreceivemessagessimultaneously.Thismeansthattheroleofsenderorreceiverisnotrestrictedtoanyonepartytothecommunicationprocess;instead,weplaybothroles.Andthisisagoodthing,forifwewerejustsenders,wemightsendmessageaftermessagewithouteverstoppin
5、gtoconsiderwhetherthemessagewasbeingreceivedasweintendedittobe.Andifwewerejustreceivers,wemightbeopentoanyandallmessagesthatcameourway.Therearetimeswhenitseemsasifcommunicationispredominantlyoneway:receiversofmessagesfailtoreact;sendersofmessagesfailtoconsiderthere
6、actionsofthereceiverbeforesendinganothermessage.Butforcommunicationtobeeffective,themessagespeoplesendtoothersshould,atleastinpart,bedeterminedbythemessagesreceivedfromthem.Thepeoplecommunicatinghavesomerelationshipwithoneanotherthataffectstheirperceptionsoftheidea
7、sandfeelingscommunicated.Friendsusuallyhavegreaterlatitudeinhowtheycansaysomethinginordertobeunderstoodcorrectlythandostrangersoradversaries.Thatisonereasoncommunicationbetweenapublicspeakerandanaudiencediffersqualitativelyfromcommunicationbetweenfriendsorcolleague
