3、tstodayalotmorethanitdidinthe50swhenIwasattendingtheUniversityofIowa.Somehowwecaughtontotheidealizationsandsimplificationsstated(oroftenjustimplied).Todaymanystudentswanteverything"spelledout".Theyseemtobecontinuallylookingfor"defects"inproblems,butnotwiththepurposeoffurtheringt
4、heirunderstandingbycopingwithambiguity,buttoprovideanexcusefornoteventhinkingfurtherabouttheproblem.Theyaremiredinaconcreteviewofreality,andsay,ineffect"Wedon'thavetounderstandthesubtleimplicationsofthis,wecanjustdoacomputersimulationofitifweneedananswer."Theconceptualandintelle
