2、therthiscanbedone.Itexaminessomeofthedifferencesthathavebeenallegedtoexist,andaugmentsthealreadyexistingdoubtaboutthem.Themaindifferencesaddressedarethesimilarity/contiguitydistinctionandtheissueofwhethersource-targetlinksarepartofthemessageinmetonymyormetaphor.Inparticular,thepaperarguesthatmetapho
3、ricallinkscanalwaysbeusedmetonymicallyandregardedascontiguities,andconverselythattwoparticular,centraltypesofmetonymiccontiguityessentiallyinvolvesimilarity.Thepaperalsotouchesbrieyonhowmetaphorandmetonymyinteractwithdomains,frames,etc.andontheroleofimaginaryidentication/categorizationoftargetas/u
4、ndersourceitems.Withthepossibleexceptionofthislastissue,thepapersuggeststhatnocombinationoftheallegeddifferencesaddressedcanservecleanlytocategorizesource/targetassociationsintometaphoricalonesandmetonymicones.Italsosuggeststhatitcanbemoreprotabletoanalyseutterancesatthelevelofthedimensionsinvolved
