5、8ThisstudyconsidersthequestionofhowLouisKahn’sdevelopmentasanarchitectwasshapedbytheinfluencesofRobertVenturi.ThepersonalandprofessionalinteractionbetweenthesetwohistoricallysignificantarchitectsbeganlateinKahn’scareerandearlyinVenturi’s.StartingwithVenturi’smaster’

6、sthesisin1950,therelationshipcontinuedpasttheseminalpublicationofComplexityandContradictioninArchitecturesixteenyearslater.SomehistoricalaccountsportrayKahnasmentortoVenturioverthisperiodoftime.Itwasinfactamoredynamicexchangethroughwhichbothartistsbenefited,andtheco

7、ntributionsoftheyouthfulVenturiontheelderKahnmaywellhavebeenpivotalforKahn.AsKahn’smatureworkbegantoemergeduringthelateryearsofhiscareer,crucialaspectsofthatnow-distinct‘signature’architecturemaywellbetracedtohisintimateexposuretoVenturi’s(thenradical)emergingtheori
