4、heageperiod(s)inwhichsuchinterventionswillhavethestrongestandlongestlastingeffects(sensitiveperiods).Inthispaper,wereviewnutritional,neuroscientific,andpsychologicalevidenceonthisissue.Nutritionalevidenceisusedtoidentifynutrient-sensitiveperiodsofage-linkeddimensionsofbraindevelopment,with
5、specificreferencetoirondeficiency.Neuroscienceevidenceisusedtoassesstheimportanceoftimingofexposurestoenvironmentalstressorsformaintainingneural,neuroendocrine,andimmunesystemsintegrity.Psychologicalevidenceillustratesthesensitivityofcognitiveandsocial–emotionaldevelopmenttocontextualriskan
6、dprotectiveinfluencesencounteredatdifferentages.Evidencerevieweddocumentsthattheearlyyearsoflifeareasensitiveperiodwhenbiologicalorpsychosocialinterventionsorexposuretoriskorprotectivecontextualinfluencescanproduceuniquelong-terminfluencesuponhumanbrain,neuroendocrine,andcognitiveorpsychosoc
7、ialdevelopment.However,theevidencedoesnotidentifytheearlyyearsasthesolesensitivetimeperiodwithinwhichtohaveasignificantinfluenceupondevelopment.Choiceofage(s)toinitiateinterventionsshouldbebasedonwhatoutcomesaretargetedandwhatinterventionsareused.Keywords:earlyinterve
