3、dslideinventoriestoerosionratesandprovidesquantitativeestimatesofthelandslidehazardassociatedwithearthquakes.Wedothisbyutilizingathree-parameterinverse-gammadistribution,whichfitsthefrequencyareastatisticsofthreesubstantiallydcompleteTlandslide-eventinventories.Aco
4、nsequenceofthisgeneraldistributionisthatalandslide-eventmagnitudemL=logNLTcanbeintroduced,whereNLTisthetotalnumberoflandslidesassociatedwiththelandslideevent.Usingthisgeneraldistribution,landslide-eventmagnitudesmLcanbeobtainedfromincompletelandslideinventories,and
5、thetotalareaandvolumeofassociatedlandslides,aswellastheareaandvolumeofthemaximumlandslides,canbedirectlyrelatedtothelandslide-eventmagnitude.Usingestimatedrecurrenceintervalsforthreelandslideeventsandthetimespanfortwohistoricalinventories,weestimateregionalerosionr
6、atesassociatedwithlandslidesas1typically0.12.5mmyear.Wenextgiveanempiricalcorrelationbetweentheearthquakemagnitude,associatedlandslide-eventmagnitude,andthetotalvolumeofassociatedlandslides.Usingthesecorrelations,weestimatethattheminimumearthquakemagnitudesthatwil
7、lgeneratelandslidesisM=4.3F0.4.Finally,usingGutenbergRichterfrequency-magnitudestatisticsforregionalseismicity,werelatetheintensityofseismicityinanareaandthemagnitudeofthelargestregionalearthquakestoerosionrates.Wefindthattypicalseismicallyinducederosionratesinacti
