4、s,suchasshownbytheM=7.7Peruson,1995).Thelatter,however,representthehighestrisktoearthquakein1970,bytheM=7.6ElSalvadorearthquakebothconstructionandlife.Awell-knowncatastrophicland-in2001orbytheM=7.4Khait(Tajikistan)earthquakeslideistheHuascaranrock-debrisavalanchetriggeredbythein1949.Theobviou
5、simpactofalandslideonthepopula-M=7.7Peruearthquakein1970,causingthedeathofmoretionisdirectlyrelatedtoitsmovement.Yet,predictionofthan18000peopleandburyingtwovillagesonitscoursefuturefailurepotentialandhencefuturerisktopopulation(Plafkeretal.,1971).Furtherexamplesarereviewedbyisnecessaryinorde
