4、ristchurch,NewZealand.Thepeakgroundacceleration,ameasureoftheshakingorintensityofanearthquake,wasoneofthehighesteverrecordedworldwide.Onehundredandeighty-fivepeoplelosttheirlives;manyotherswereinjured.Twocasesbothinvolvingyoungwomenarepresented;theysustainedcrushinjuries
5、tolimbsafterbeingtrappedbyfallingdebrisandwentontodevelopsevereneuropathicpain.Thisreportexaminesthemechanismsofneuropathicpaininthesettingofcrushinjury,thetreatmentmodalities,andtheassociationbetweenchronicpainandposttraumaticstressdisorder.Thesecasereportshighlightthef
6、actthatcrushinjuryisrelativelycommonduringmajorearthquakesandthatneuropathicpainisanimportantsequelofthis.Post-traumaticstressdisorderiscommoninearthquakesurvivorswitharecognisedassociationwithchronicpain.Pain-relateddisabilitymayincreaseaswell.Issuessuchaschronicpainand
