2、panhavebeeninserviceformorethanseventyyears.Someofthesebridgeshavesevereproblemsincludingcorrosionoftheupperflange,fatigueandnoiseemissions.Inthisstudy,amethodisproposedforthestructuralimprovementofexistingrailwaysteelbridgesthroughinstallingconcreteslabsonexistingsteelgirders.Thismethod

3、improvestheload-bearingcapacityofthebridges,extendstheirserviceablelife,andreducesnoiseemissions.Feasibilitystudiesforeaseofapplicationofthecompositegirdersweremadeandtheproposedmethodwasverifiedtoensureitcouldbecom-pletedwithinthetightallocatedtimeschedules.Furthermorewefoundthroughload

6、rrentlystillinuse,thenumberneedingtobereplacedwillgraduallyin-Steelgirdercrease.Replacingabridgenotonlyinvolvesredesigning(a)Steelgirder(b)Compositegirderandrebuildingthebridgebutalsomeansreplacingtrackandsecuringlandforthereconstruction,etc.Asaresult,Fig.1Outlineofthecompositegirderther
