2、-getedatsecondyearPhDstudents.Itispartofasequenceineconomicgrowthandinternationaltrade,andwillbefollowedbyNancyStokey’s"TopicsinEconomicGrowth"course,andSamKortum’s"QuantitativeAnalysisinInternationalTrade"course.TheclasswillmeetonTuesdaysandThursdaysfrom10:30AMto11:50AMinRosenwald329.Thisc
3、ourseintroducesstudentstothetheoriesofinternationaltrade,withaspecialemphasisontheroleoffirms.Afteranintroductiononkeyempiricalregularitiesandtraditionaltheoriesofinternationaltrade,wemoveontostudythemostrecentworkininternationaltrade:tradefromthepointofviewofindividualfirms.First,wewilltryan
4、dunderstandthedeterminantsofthedecisionoffirmstoexportornot,whichforeignmarkettoenter,theroleofheterogeneitybetweenfirmsinshapingthosedecisions,andtheaggregatebehaviorofaneconomypopulatedwithsuchheterogeneousfirms.Second,wewillstudythedeterminantsofthesizedistributionoffirms,astheheterogeneityi
5、nsizeisthekeynovelingredientofmodernmodelsoffirmsandinternationaltrade.Third,wewillstudyrecentadvancesontheconnectionbetweeninternationaltradeandwageinequality.Firnally,wewillstudythe1internationalorganizationofproduction,focusingonrecentmodelsofoff-shoring,outsourcingandforeigndirectinvestme
6、nt.GradingThegradewillbebasedclassparticipation,weeklyreports,andanoralpresentation.Weeklyreports:everyweek,foreachnewpaperthatwewillcoveratlengthinclass,studentsshouldsendmeabriefcommentbyemailontheeveningbeforetheclass(include"ECON357"inthetitleoftheemail).Thecommentshouldconsistofasummar
