2、ongerGettingStartedandotheruserguidesfoundintheonlinedocs.Iuseitinaweek-long“bootcamp”forgraduatestudentsattheUniversityofDelawareinthesummeraftertheirfirstyearofstudy.IassumenoknowledgeofMATLABatthestart,thoughaworkingfamiliaritywithbasiclinearalgebraisp
3、rettyimportant.Thefirstfoursectionscoverthebasicsneededtosolveevensimpleexercises.(ThereisalsoalittleinformationaboutusingMATLABtomakegraphicsforatechnicalpaper.)Theremainingsectionsgomoredeeplyintoissuesandcapabilitiesthatshouldatleastbeintheconsciousnes
4、sofapersontryingtoimplementaprojectofmorethanahundredlinesorso.TheversionofMATLABatthiswritingis6.5(Release13).Simulinkandtheoptionaltoolboxesarenotcovered.Pleasedon’tredistributeoralterthisdocumentwithoutmypermission.I’mnotstingywithsuchpermission,butIl
5、iketohaveanideaofwheremyworkgoes.1IntroductionMATLABisasoftwarepackageforcomputationinengineering,science,andappliedmathemat-ics.Itoffersapowerfulprogramminglanguage,excellentgraphics,andawiderangeofexpertknowledge.MATLABispublishedbyandatrademarkofTheMa
6、thWorks,Inc.ThefocusinMATLABisoncomputation,notmathematics.Hencesymbolicexpressionsandmanipulationsarenotpossible(exceptthroughacleverinterfacetoMaple).Allresultsarenotonlynumericalbutinexact,thankstotheroundingerrorsinherentincomputerarithmetic.Thelimit
7、ationtonumericalcomputationcanbeseenasadrawback,butitisasourceofstrengthtoo:MATLABgenerallyrunscirclesaroundMaple,Mathematica,andthelikewhenitcomestonumerics.Ontheotherhand,comparedtoothernumericallyorientedlanguageslikeC++andFOR-TRAN,MATLABismucheasiert
