4、ingHurricaneKatrina.Onlinecommunitiesanotherthroughonlinecommunitiesandorganizedtherespondedtothedisasterbyfacilitatingthedistributiondistributionofanadhoccollectionofresources.Peopleofdonatedgoodsfromordinarypeopledirectlytoappropriatedthetechnologiesthatwereavailabletohurrican
5、esurvivors.These“connectedgiving”groupsthem—forums,bulletinboards,blogs,andpersonalfacedseveralchallenges:establishingauthoritywithinwebsites—tocoordinateamassivegrassrootsresponsethegroup,providingrelevantinformation,developingtothedisaster.trustinoneanother,andsustainingthegro
6、upoverOurinitialobservationrevealedtwoformsoftime.Twoformsofcomputer-mediatedconnectedgivingcomputer-mediatedconnectedgiving:smallblogwereobserved:smallblogcommunitiesandlargecommunitiesandlargeforumcommunities.Smallforums.Smallblogcommunitiesusedacentralizedcommunitiesbenefitfr
7、omthestrongrelationshipsauthoritystructurethatwasmoreimmediatelybetweenmembers;thesestrongtiesmakecohesive,successfulinmanaginginformationanddevelopingtrustinggroups.Largecommunitieshavetheadvantagetrust,butovertime,blogcommunitiesweredifficulttoofmoreresources,largernetworksofp
