2、ofrelateddevelopmentsinsocial,labor,andpoliticalhistorythathaveimportantimplicationsfortheunderstandingofeconomicchange.TheCambridgeEconomicHistoryoftheUnitedStateshasbeendesignedtotakefullaccountofnewknowledgeinthesubject,whileatthesametimeofferingacomprehensivesurveyofthehistoryofecon

3、omicactivityandeconomicchangeintheUnitedStates,andinthoseregionswhoseeconomieshaveatcertaintimesbeencloselyalliedtothatoftheUnitedStates,CanadaandtheCaribbean.VolumeIsurveystheeconomichistoryofBritishNorthAmerica,in-cludingCanadaandtheCaribbean,andoftheearlyUnitedStates,fromearlysettlem

4、entbyEuropeanstotheendoftheeighteenthcentury.ThevolumeincludeschaptersontheeconomichistoryofNativeAmericans(toi860),andalsoontheEuropeanandAfricanbackgroundstocolonization.Subsequentchapterscoverthesettlementandgrowthofthecolonies,includingspecialsurveysofthenortherncolonies,thesouthern
