2、40496120239English摘要Theproblemunderinvestigationinthisstudyconcernsthemotivationalandpersonalityfactorsthatbothpositivelyandnegativelyaffecttheachievementandretentionof"at-risk"collegestudents.At-riskstudentspresentaproblemforcollegesbecausetheyaredifficulttoretain;therefore,studyingthe
3、factorsthataffecttheiracademicperformanceisparamountinlearninghowtoassistthesestudentsinattainingasuccessfulcollegecareer.At-riskstudentsrankbelowthe50thpercentileinthefollowingareas:theAmericanCollegeTestACT)andtheScholasticAptitudeTestSAT)scores,collegeplacementscores,andhighschoolgra
4、depointaverageGPA).The105subjectswhoparticipatedinthisstudywereenrolledinasmallMidwesternUniversity,rangedinagefrom18--59,andincludedbothgenders.Theresearchercollectedthedatathroughpersonalinterviewsandtheuseoftwoquestionnaires,TheMotivatedStrategiesLearningQuestionnaireandTheNEOFive-Fa
5、ctorInventoryNEO-FFI).TheNEO-FFIincludedthefollowingfactors:Neuroticism,Extraversion,OpennesstoExperience,Agreeableness,andConscientiousness.Theresearcherusedtheinterviewsandquestionnairestoassesstheeffectsofthreevariables,self-efficacy,metacognition,andpersonalitytraitsontheperformance
6、andretentionofat-riskcollegestudents.Theresearcherused,ANOVA,MANOVA,standardMultipleRegressionandthePearsonCorrelationCoefficienttodeterminetheeffectofthethreevariablesonat-riskcollegestudents.Uponcompletionofthisstudy,theresearchersconclusionsshowedthatself-efficacy,metacognitionandthe
7、personalitytraitofConscientiousnessareimportantfactorsthatinfluenceat-riskcollegestudentsacademicachievementandretention.Thus,collegeswhoadmitat-riskstudentsneedtoestablishpossibleinterventionsandprogramsthatwillassistthemintheirendeavorsofachievingacademicsuccess.2、Antipathies
