3、cademicpapersthuspromptinginternationalacademiccommunication.Recently,researchersinChinahaveexploredeffectiveteachingapproachestoimprovestudents’AWC.However,fewresearchesareavailabletoexaminethedevelopmentofAWCfromlearners’perspective.Inthisregard,thisstudywillprobeintothedevelopmentofst
4、udents’AWC,adoptinganin-depthqualitativeapproach.TargetingatanEnglishAcademicWritingcourseforthethird-yearEnglishmajorsinauniversityofforeignlanguages,thisstudyisintendedtoexaminethedevelopmentofAWCconcerningtheresearchdesignabilityandtheacademicwritingability,aswellastofurtherexplorefac
5、torsaffectingthedevelopment.Adoptingqualitativecasestudy,thestudyselectedthreestudentsofdifferentresearchorientationsastheparticipants.Multiplesourcesofevidenceweregleanedincludingsemi-structuredinterviews,researchreportsmaterials,writtentextsandreflectivejournals.Resultsofthestudywereco
6、ncludedasfollows:firstly,studentsmadeprogressinresearchdesignability.Specifically,studentsrealizedthesignificanceofformulatingresearchquestions.Theylearnedtoemployscientificinstrumentstocollectdataandtheirabilitiesofanalyzingdatafromquestionnairesandinterviewshaveslightlyimproved.Thestud
7、yalsorevealedthatreferences,scaffoldingfromtheteacher,thepeersandtheteachingassistantsaswellasstudents’self-reflectionstendedtoexertgreatinfluenceonthedevelopment.Secondly,enhancementcanalsobeobservedintermsofacademicwritingability.Thefindingsindicatedthatstudentshadabett
