2、feelings.Theyarecommonphenomenainhumanlanguageandalsostrategiesofharmonizinginterpersonalrelationshipandsmoothingsocialcommunication.AsRawsonmentioned,euphemisms"areembeddedsodeeplyinourlanguagethatfewofus,eventhosewhopridethemselvesonbeingplain-spoken,evergothroughadaywithoutthe

3、m".       Euphemismsarewidelyusedinsocialcommunication,somestudiesathomeandabroadhavemadeconsiderableachievementsunderthescopesofrhetoric,lexicography,semantics,sociolinguistics,psycholinguistics,Fuzzytheory,pragmatics,andsoon.However,fewresearcheshavebeenconductedintothescopeofc

4、ognitivesemantics,especiallywithintheframeworkofConceptualIntegrationTheory.Sothepreviousstudieshavenotunfoldedthecognitiveprocesswheneuphemismsareused.ConceptualIntegration(Blending)isageneralcognitiveoperationonaparwithanalogy,recursion,mentalmodeling,conceptualcategorization,a

5、ndframing.Fromtheperspectiveofsemantics,thistheoryurgestheuserstobreaktheoriginalsemanticconventionbydescribingsomethingorsomefeelingsunusualorevenabsurdwhentakenliterally.Fromtheaspectofcognitivelinguistics,itreferstotwomentalspacesthatareconnectedbycross-spacemapping,andtwoinpu

6、tspacesthatareprojectedontoathirdspace,whichcanbeexplaineddynamically,i.e.theblendedspacebyselectiveprojection.Thusthenewconceptualcategorizationisbuilt,namely,theemergentstructureappears.iiiThisthesisisatentativestudythatfocusesonexploringthehumancognitiveactivityandtheprocessof
