4、onthesevenmain-streampragmatictheories,thisthesismakesacomparativelyall-roundresearchontheverbalhumorsoccurringinEnglishconversations.ThroughtheanalysisoflotsofexamplesofEnglishhumorwithintheframeworkofpragmatictheoriesformedbycooperativeprinciple,politenessprinciple,facethe
5、ory,relevancetheory,deixis,presuppositionandspeechacttheories,thisthesisismuchdevotedtotheexplorationofthepragmaticapparatusesforhumorproductionandinterpretation.ItisfoundthathumorouseffectsmightbeproducedwhenCPorPPmaximsareviolated,whenthespeaker’sorhearer’sfaceshouldbeprot
