3、theUnitedStates.Amidhisheavyburdens,duties,andresponsibilities-unsoughtbutnotrecoiledfrom-thePresidenthastravelledathousandmilestodignifyandmagnifyourmeetinghereto-dayandtogivemeanopportunityofaddressingthiskindrednation,aswellasmyowncountrymenacrosstheocean,andperhapssomeothercountri
4、estoo.ThePresidenthastoldyouthatitishiswish,asIamsureitisyours,thatIshouldhavefulllibertytogivemytrueandfaithfulcounselintheseanxiousandbafflingtimes.Ishallcertainlyavailmyselfofthisfreedom,andfeelthemorerighttodosobecauseanyprivateambitionsImayhavecherishedinmyyoungerdayshavebeensati
5、sfiedbeyondmywildestdreams.Letme,however,makeitclearthatIhavenoofficialmissionorstatusofanykind,andthatIspeakonlyformyself.Thereisnothingherebutwhatyousee. Icanthereforeallowmymind,withtheexperienceofalifetime,toplayovertheproblemswhichbesetusonthemorrowofourabsolutevic
6、toryinarms,andtotrytomakesurewithwhatstrengthIhavethatwhathasbeengainedwithsomuchsacrificeandsufferingshallbepreservedforthefuturegloryandsafetyofmankind. TheUnitedStatesstandsatthistimeatthepinnacleofworldpower.ItisasolemnmomentfortheAmericanDemocracy.Forwithprimacyinp
