4、avebeenanessentialpartofculturalrelics.DocumentarysourcesonthehorsecanbetracedbacktotheearliestChinesewritings.Inthisdissertationitissuggestedthatthedomesticationwasalong,stagedprocess,andthetransmissionrouteofthehorsefromtheUralstoChinaviaCentralAsiawillbeproposed.Acomprehensiv
5、esurveyofthearchaeologicalremainsrelatedtothehorseinthepre-imperialeraconstitutesthesecondmainaspectofthisdissertation,whiledocumentarysourcesfocusingontheuseofthehorseincivilandmilitaryaffairsandtheinteractionofthehorseandhumanbeings.AftercomparingtheroleofthehorseinChinawithth
6、atinotherancientcivilizations,suchasGreece,IndiaandPersia,thediscussionwillendupwithasummaryofthecontributionsofthedomesticatedhorsetopre-imperialChina.Thousandsofmilesofroadswereconstructedforequestriantransport,andpoliticallythehorseacceleratedthepaceofmilitaristicexpansionand
