3、sionⅠ.IntroductionInthe19thcentury,romanticismprevailedastheliterarymainstreamthroughouttheEuropeancontinent.WilliamWordsworth(1770-1850)wasoneofthepioneersintheromanticistmovement.Asagreatpoetofnature,hewrotemanyfamouspoemstoexpresshislovefornature,oneofwhi

4、chis“IWanderedLonelyasaCloud”.Inthenarrativepoem,thepoetsuccessfullycomparedhislonelinesswiththehappyandvitaldaffodils.Thedaffodils,thesymbolofthenature,bringgreatjoyandrelieftothespeaker.SoWordsworth’sconceptionofnatureisthatnaturehasalottodowithman,itcanno

5、tonlyrefreshone’ssoulandfillonewithhappiness,butitcanalsobereducedintoabeautifulmemorywhichwillcomfortone’sheartwheninsolitude.In1832RalphWaldoEmerson(1803-1882),anAmericanUnitarianminister,lefttheministryforEuropetopursueacareerinwritingandpublicspeaking.Th

6、ereheacquaintedWordsworthandgotinfluencedbyhim.WhenhereturnedtoNewEngland,heaccomplishedhismasterpieceNature,inwhichhespeaksloudhislovefornatureandexplicateshisphilosophicalideasthatearnedhimthereputationasTranscendentalism’smostseminalforce.However,Emersond

7、idnotjustimitateWordsworthoranyotherEuropeanromanticist’sminds,rather,hisconceptionofnatureisadifferentandmorecomplexone,whichwecanseefromhispoemRhodora.Emersonholdsthatmanandnatureallcomefromthesamepower.Sophilosophically,thispoemshowsEmerson’stranscendenta
