1、AccesstoUSschoolsafetyCase:IndicatorsofSchoolCrimeandSafety:2004istheseventhinaseriesofannualreportsonschoolcrimeandsafety.Thereportpresentsdataonstudentandteachervictimization,students'perceptionofpersonalsafety,gangs,studentreportsofbullying,studentsbeingcalledhate-relatedw
2、ordsandseeinghate-relatedgraffiti,andstudentalcoholanddrugabuse.·Between1992and2002,thetotalcrimerateforstudentsages12to18,aswellasratesoftheft,violentcrimes(includingseriousviolentcrimesandsimpleassault),andseriousviolentcrimes(includingrape,sexualassault,robbery,andaggravat
3、edassault)declined.·Between1993and2003,thepercentageofstudentsingrades9-12whoreportedbeinginafightonschoolpropertydeclinedfrom16percentto13percent.·In2003,7percentofstudentsages12to18reportedthattheyhadbeenbulliedatschool.Thepercentageofstudentsinthisagerangewhohadbeenbullied
4、increasedfrom5percentin1999to8percentin2001,butnodifferencewasdetectedbetween2001and2003.·Between1993and2003,thepercentageofstudentsingrades9-12whoreportedcarryingaweaponsuchasagun,knife,orclubonschoolpropertywithintheprevious30daysdroppedbyhalf,from12percentto6percent.·In200
5、3,12percentofstudentsages12-18reportedthatsomeoneatschoolhadusedhate-relatedwordsagainstthem(i.e.,derogatorywordsrelatedtorace,religion,ethnicity,disability,gender,orsexualorientation).Duringthesameperiod,about36percentofstudentsages12and18sawhate-relatedgraffitiatschool.·Twe
6、nty-onepercentofstudentsages12and18reportedthatstreetgangswerepresentattheirschoolsin2003.Studentsinurbanschoolswerethemostlikelytoreportthepresenceofstreetgangsattheirschool(31percent),followedbysuburbanstudentsandruralstudents(18and12percent,respectively).·In2003,studentsin
7、grades9-12wereaskedaboutusingdrugsonschoolproperty.Inthe30dayspriortothesurvey,5percentofstudentsreportedhavingatleastonedrinkofalcoholonschoolpropertyand6percentreportedusingmarijuana.·Everyyearfrom1998to2002,teacherswerethevictimsofapproximately234,000totalnonfatalcrimesats
