2、d.First,wearedoingeverythingwecantoprotectAmericancitizens.Thatismyhighestpriority.InLibya,we'veurgedourpeopletoleavethecountryandtheStateDepartmentisassistingthoseinneedofsupport.6Meanwhile,IthinkallAmericansshouldgivethankstotheheroicworkthat'sbeingdonebyourforeignserviceofficersan
3、dthemenandwomenservinginourembassiesandconsulatesaroundtheworld. Theyrepresenttheverybestofourcountryanditsvalues.Now,throughoutthisperiodofunrestandupheavalacrosstheregiontheUnitedStateshasmaintainedasetofcoreprincipleswhichguideourapproach.TheseprinciplesapplytothesituationinLibya.
4、 AsIsaidlastweek,westronglycondemntheuseofviolenceinLibya.TheAmericanpeopleextendourdeepestcondolencestothefamiliesandlovedonesofallwho’vebeenkilledandinjured.Thesufferingandbloodshedisoutrageousanditisunacceptable.Soarethreatsandorderstoshootpeacefulprotestersandfurtherpunishthepeop
5、leofLibya.Theseactionsviolateinternationalnormsandeverystandardofcommondecency.Thisviolencemuststop.6TheUnitedStatesalsostronglysupportstheuniversalrightsoftheLibyanpeople.Thatincludestherightsofpeacefulassembly,freespeech,andtheabilityoftheLibyanpeopletodeterminetheirowndestiny. The
6、searehumanrights.Theyarenotnegotiable.Theymustberespectedineverycountry.Andtheycannotbedeniedthroughviolenceorsuppression. Inavolatilesituationlikethisone,itisimperativethatthenationsandpeoplesoftheworldspeakwithonevoice,andthathasbeenourfocus.YesterdayaunanimousU.N.SecurityCounc
7、ilsentaclearmessagethatitcondemnstheviolenceinLibya,supportsaccountabilityfortheperpetrators,andstandswiththeLibyanpeople. Thissamemessage,bytheway,hasbeendeliveredbytheEuropeanUnion,theArabLeague,theAfricanUnion,theOrganizationoftheIslamicConference,andmanyindividualnations. N
