2、nhisbathatCanadianCorpsheadquartersinValenciennes,France.About15kilometreseast,Canadiantroopswereengagedinmopping‐upoperationsaftercapturingtheBelgiancityofMons,wheremorethanfouryearsearliertheBritisharmyhadbeenforcedtoretreatinitsfirstbattleofWorldWarI.Thesymbolismwaslostonnoone.ThemayorofM
3、onstrumpeteditinhisarmisticeproclamation,Curriereferredtothe"historicbattlefield"inacongratulatorytelegramtooneofhisgenerals,andtheBritishenjoyedameasureofrevengewhentheirLancersjoinedCurrie'svictoryparade.Currieandhisentouragemadetheirentrancefourhoursafterthe11a.m.armistice.Thepictureshows
