3、entswereminimal,and"others"providedthedesignandinstallationofthecablingsystem.Thetelephonecompaniestookcareoftheinstallationandmaintenanceofthetelephoneservice.Whendataservicesbecamedistributed,thecablingsystemwasvendor-specific,andtheinstallationandmaintenanceofthecableplantwa
4、sprovidedbytheequipmentvendors,orspecializedindependentcontractors.InJanuary1984,thecourtsintheU.S.madeseveralimportantrulingsthatchangedthewaytelecommunicationswasprovidedanddistributed.Outsideoftraditionalsuppliersofcablingsystems,notmuchwasunderstoodaboutthecablingrequiremen
5、tsforcommunicationstransport.Theproliferationofmediaandconnectorinterfaces,alackofstandardtransmissionspecifications,andtheintroductionofcablingschemesbyvendorsaddedtotheuser'sconfusion.Bringingordertotheconfusionandcreatinggenericcablingsystemsdemandedthecreationofastandardsbo
6、dywhoseoutputwouldfocusoncommercialbuildingsandcommunicationscabling.Sincetheintroductionofthefirstcablingstandardin1991bytheTelecommunicationsIndustryAssociation/ElectronicIndustryAlliance(TIA/EIA),thatsamegrouphasissuedaseriesofstandardsandspecificationsregardingmostaspectsof
7、thestructuredcablingsystems.Thesestandardshaveprovidedguidancerelatedtoevolvinghigh-speedinformationtransportsystems.Thevastmajorityofpastandpresentdigitalcommunications,usedinthecommercialworld,hasbeentransportedonunshieldedtwisted-pair(UTP)cablingsystems.UTPbecamethemediumofc
