4、,researchers,andhealthcareadministrators,asthesedeficitsareamajordeterminantofoutcomeforpatients.Impairedsocialabilitiesinschizophrenia-spectrumdisordersandautismarethoughttobepartlyattributabletospecificaspectsofsymptomatology,suchasnegativesymptoms(
5、bluntaffect,socialwithdrawal,anhedonia)anddisturbancesofseveraldomainsofcognitivefunction,e.g.verbalmemory,workingmemory,attention/vigilance,andinformationprocessing.Werecentlyfoundthatseverityofsocialcognitiondeficitsiscorrelatedwithdecreasedconcentr
6、ationsofessentialpolyunsaturatedfattyacidsintheerythrocytemembraneinsubjectswithschizophrenia.Psychotropicdrugsactingonmonoaminereceptors,suchasserotonin(5-HT)-5HT1A,and5-HT2Areceptors,havebeenshowntoimprovesocialbehaviorandcognitivefunctioninrodents.
7、Forexample,5HT1Aagonistsenhancesocialinteractionandreduceanxietyinrodents,whilethenewerclassantipsychoticdrugswith5-HT2Aantagonistactions,e.g.clozapine,melperone,olanzapine,risperidone,quetiapine,ziprasidone,aripiprazole,andperospironeimprovenegatives
