Unit4JOURNEYACROSSAVASTLANDVANCOUVERANDTHEHEARTOFCANADALiDaiyuandhercousinLiuQianwenttoCanadatovisittheircousinsinHalifaxontheAtlanticcoast.Ratherthan(travel)bycommercialairlinealltheway,theydecidedtoflytoVancouverandthentakethetrain.Forbothofthem,thethoughtofcrossingthewholecountybyrailwas(excite).Beforestartingout,theyspentacoupleofdaysinVancouver(see)thesights.Duringtheirfirstday,asistypicalofVancouver,itrained.Despitetheweather,theywereabletotakeaboatrideoutintothebay,and(late)visitanislandthathadwonderfulshops(sell)craftsandantiques.Thenextdaywasclearandmild,andtheywerepleased(see)thebeautifulmountainslookingoutoverthecity.Latertheytookapleasanthikeaforestjustashortdistanceaway.Thenextmorning,thetwogirlsaroseearlytotakethetraintoLakeLouise,(pass)throughtheCanadianRockies.(See)fromthetrainwindow,themountainsandforestsofCanadalookedmassive.Whenthetrainarrivedthestation,theytookataxitoLakeLouisewherethebluewaterliterallytooktheirbreathawaywithexceptionalbeauty.Theyspentthenight,andthentookacoachboundnorththroughtheCanadianRockiestoJasper.Lookingatthebeautifulscenery,theybothagreedthatwasthemostawesomejourneytheyhadevertaken.Inadditiontoseeingspectacularmountainpeaksandforests,onehighlightoftheirtrip(be)beingabletoseemanydifferentcreatures,includingdeer,mountain(goat),andevenagrizzlybearandaneagle.FromJasper,theycaughtthetraintowardsToronto.Oneofthetrain'sfirst(stop)wasinEdmonton,theprovincialcapitalofAlberta,thecentreofCanada'shugeoilandgasdrillingindustry.Edmontonisfreezingcoldinwinter,withdailytemperaturesaveraging-10°C.Sinceitcanbetoocoldgooutdoors,Edmontonishometomanyshoppingmalls.Infact,oneofthelargestshoppingmallsinNorthAmericaisinEdmonton.FromEdmonton,thetrainheadedsoutheastacrossthegreatCanadianPrairie.Atschool,DaiyuandLiuQianhadlearntthatCanada'spopulationisonly(slight)overthirty-sevenmillion.However,theydidnotanticipateseeingsuchopencountry,andwere(true)amazed.Theywentthroughtwowheat-growingprovinces,wheretheysawabunchoffarmscoveredaverylargearea.
