3、eal.Whyshouldyouletallthatmoneygotowaste?Theconsumerisconstantlyfacedwithdecidingwhattobuyandhowmuchtobuy.Tomakethesedecisions,theymusttakeintoaccountthepotentialgainorlossfromthepurchase.Cost–benefitanalysisisastapleofeconomicpolicyanalysisandbusinessplanning.Thisanalysisrequir
4、esonetotallyallpotentialincomeorbenefitfromaprojectandpotentialcosttoengageintheproject.Theideaisthatiftheplannedbenefitofaventureexceedsthecost,itmaybeaworthwhileventuretoengagein.Moretothepoint,ifasetofchoicesaremutuallyexclusive(i.e.,onecannotchoosemorethanoneoption),thenanind
5、ividualorfirmshouldchoosetheoptionwiththehighestnetbenefit,definedastotalbenefitminustotalcost.Inasmuchasthepriceofagood,aswellastheatmosphere,cansignalquality,pricecanperhapsinfluencetheexpectationsoftheconsumer.Thiscouldinturninfluencetheconsumer’swillingnesstopayforthegood.Questio
6、nsofhowmuchtoconsumeshouldfollowthesimpleeconomicruleofequatingmarginalcostandmarginalbenefit.Solongasinitialconsumptionproducesmorebenefitsthancosts,oneshouldconsumeuntilthecostofthemarginalgoodincreasesand/orthebenefitofthemarginalgooddecreasestothepointthatthereiszeronetbenefitf
