2、hisstudywastofurtherconsiderthisassertionbyexaminingcollegestudents'creditcardusebehaviorandattitudes.Aconcurrentpurposewastotestthefactorsassociatedwithstudents'attitudetowardcreditcards.Itwasdeterminedthat,usingasampleof242undergraduateandgraduatestudents
3、fromasouthwesternstateuniversity,Ethnic/racialbackground,academiclevel,creditcardownership,parents'creditcarduse,moneyethic,andlocusofcontrolwereassociatedwithcollegestudents'creditcardattitudes.Henryetal.'sassertionthatstudentsarevulnerabletoafinancialcris
4、iswasconfirmed.Collegestudents'useofcreditcardshasrecentlyreceivedincreasedvisibilitythroughoutthemedia(Hayhoe,2002).Henry,Weber,andYarbrough(2001),writinginthisJournal,concludedthatinadditiontocreditproblemsmanystudentsdonothaveawrittenbudget,andofthosewho
5、dohaveabudgetfewyoungpeopleactuallyuseit.Theydeterminedthatuniversitystudents"arevulnerabletofinancialcrisis"(p.246).Thestaggeringnumberofcreditcardsincirculationexemplifiesthiscrisis,asdoesthenumberofcardscarriedbytheaveragestudent.Currently,thereare1.3bil
6、lioncreditcardsincirculation,which,whenaveraged,equalsabout12cardsperhousehold(Sullivan,Warren,&Westbrook,2000).Thegrowthofcreditcardsoncollegecampuseshastendedtominorthecreditsaturationfoundinthegeneralpublic(Xiao,Noring,&Anderson,1995).MorethanadecadeagoC
7、huraman(1988)reportedoncollegestudents'useofconsumercredit.Itwasduringthisperiodthatthebankingindustrybeganpermeatingthestudentcreditcardmarketinthelate1980's(Manning,2000).Churamanreportedthatin1985-86overhalfofallcollegestudentshadbankcreditcards.Thisfigu
