3、ingbondedcompositepatches,asastandardmeansofrepairingdamagedmetallicaircraftstructuresisthefactthattheintegrityoftherepairsisunknown.Inthispaperthedesign,analysisanddurabilityofadhesivelybondedcompositepatchrepairsofcrackedaircraftaluminumpanelsisreported.Pre-cracked2024-T3cladalu

4、minumpanelsof381×89×1.6mm(15×3.5×0.063in.)repairedwithoctagonalsinglesidedboron/epoxycompositepatchwereusedastestspecimen.Twodifferentcompositeplyconfigurations,5-and6-plywereinvestigated.Linearandnon-linearfiniteelementanalyseswereperformedonthetestspecimenusing8-noded24degreeoff

5、reedom(DOF)hexagonalelementsforthealuminumpanel,boron/epoxypatchandadhesivematerialsubjectedtouni-axialtensileloading.Thestressdistributionsobtainedwereusedtopredicttheincreaseinstrengthanddurabilityoftherepairedstructure.Acomparisonofthestressvaluesatcriticalpointswasmade.Theanal

6、ysisalsowasusedtovalidatevariousassumptionsmadeinthedesignofthecompositepatch.Experimentalinvestigationswereconductedonthecrackedaluminumpanelrepairedwitha5-plycompositepatchaswellasontwobaseline-unpatchedpanels(onewithacrackandonewithnocrack)byuni-axialtensiletestingtovalidatethe
