2、rs.Thesesimulationmodelsaredevelopedtosupportndenhanceelectricmachineryeducationattheundergraduateevel.TheproposedtestshavebeensuccessfullyintegratedintolectricmachinerycoursesatDrexelUniversity,Philadelphia,PA,andNigdeUniversity,Nigde.Turkey.IndexTerms—Education
3、,inductionmotors,MATLAB/Simulink,softwarelaboratory.I.INTRODUCTIONWITHTHEadventoflow-costpersonalcomputersandvariouseasilyaccessiblesoftwarepackages,computer-aidedteachingtoolshavebecomeanessentialpartofbothclassroomlecturesandlaboratoryexperimentsinelectricalmac
4、hineryeducation[1]–[6].Thecomputermodelsandsimulationsofinductionmotors,asteachingtools,supporttheclassroomteachingbyenablingtheinstructor,throughthecomputer-generatedgraphics,toillustrateeasilysteady-stateoperationofthemotorundervariousloadingconditions.Thecompu
5、tationaltoolsasapartoflaboratoryexperimentsenhancelaboratoryexperiencebyprovidingstudentswiththeopportunitytoverifytheresultsoflaboratoryexperimentsandcomparethemwiththoseobtainedbycomputersimulations.Suchacomparisonopportunityhelpsstudentsrealizethelimitationsof
6、hardwareexperimentsand,asacounterpoint,appreciatethatcomputermodelscannotsubstituteforactualhardwareexperimentsthatmightnotexactlyrepresenttheoperationofinductionmotorsbecauseofsomemodelingassumptions.Moreover,anundergraduateelectricmachinerycoursethatintegratesu
7、p-to-datecomputerhardwareandsoftwaretoolsinbothlectureandlaboratorysectionsalsomeetstheexpectationsoftoday’sstudentswhowanttousecomputersandsimulationtoolsineveryaspectsofacourse,andthus,possiblyattractsmorestudents.Electricalmachinerycoursesattheundergraduatelev
8、eltypicallyconsistofclassroomandlaboratorysections.Theclassroomsectioncoversthesteady-stateoperationoftheinductionmotorinwhichtheper-phaseequivalentcircuitisus
