4、ingenvironments,client-serversoftwarearchitectureshavebecomeacommonapproachtoprovidingaccesstosharedservicesandresources.Mostcommercialrelationaldatabasemanagementsystemstodayarebasedonclient-serverarchitectures,withSQLqueriesandtheirresultsservingasthebasisforclient-serverinteract

5、ions.Inthepastfewyears,anumberofobject-orientedDBMSprototypesandproductshaveappeared,virtuallyallofwhicharebasedonclient-serverarchitectures.Comparedtorelationaldatabasesystems,thesesystemsgenerallytakeadifferentapproachwhenitcomestoclient-serverinteractions.Inordertooffloadprocess

6、ingtoclientworkstations,itiscommonforclient-serverinteractioninanOODBMStotakeplaceatthelevelofindividualobjectsorpagesofobjectsratherthanqueries.Prototypesbasedonobject-levelinteractionincludeOrionandO2,amongothers.Amongtheprototypesbasedonpage-levelinteractionsareObServerandthecur
