5、sliding,and(3)rolling.Startingfrictionisthefrictionbetweentwosolidsthattendtoresistmovement.Whentwopartsareatastateofrest,thesurfaceirregularitiesofbothpartstendtointerlockandformawedgingaction.Toproducemotionintheseparts,thewedge-shapedpeaksandvalleysofthesta
6、tionarysurfacesmustbemadetoslideoutandovereachother.Therougherthetwosurfaces,thegreaterisstartingfrictionresultingfromtheirmovement.Sincethereisusuallynofixedpatternbetweenthepeaksandvalleysoftwomatingparts,theirregularitiesdonotinterlockoncethepartsareinmotio
