2、leinmycountry,SouthKorea,believethegenderstereotypethatwomenareinherentlyinferiortomeninmathematics.Istronglydisagreewiththisoutdatednotion.Womenarejustascapableofoutstandingmathematicalachievementasmen,andIamdeterminedtohelpdisprovegenderstereotypesthroughmyexample
3、. Mathematicshasalwaysgivenmeadeepsenseofsatisfaction.Eveninelementaryschool,Iwasattractedtotheprecisionandlogicinherentinmathematicalformulas.IdevouredasmuchmathematicalinformationasIcould,collectingtheoremsofmathematicianssuchasGaussandEuclidlikeotherstudentscol
4、lectedstamps.Ihadtheopportunitytotestmyskillsandknowledgeinhighschool,whenIcompetedinseveralnationalmathcompetitions,includingtheKoreaMathematicalOlympiad.Mystrongshowinginthesevenues,alongwithmytopmathgradesandperfectmathscoreontheKoreanSAT,bolsteredmyconfidenceinm
5、yabilities.IwasproudtoprovetoothersthatIwascapableofperformingatthehighestlevels. Despitemystronginterestandachievementinmathematics,ithasbeendifficultformetorealizemypotentialduetotheKoreaneducationalsystem,whichemphasizescrammingfortestsinsteadofcriticalundersta
6、nding.Moresignificantly,Koreansocialbiasesagainstwomeninthefieldsofmathandsciencehavediscouragedmefrompursuingmyloveofmathematics.Thus,IwanttostudyintheUnitedStates,whereIwillbeablefollowmydreamwithouttheseconstraints.Foraboutayear,IhavetakenEnglishlanguagecoursesat
7、auniversityinWashington,D.C.,whereIhavegainedaglimpseofAmericanacademiclifefromtheinside.IamveryimpressedbyAmericanstudents’devotiontotheirstudiesandthesystem’sabilitytosupporteachstudent’sgoals.IamthereforeespeciallyinterestedinattendingBostonCollege,which,inadditi
