2、ts,ontheotherhand,isusuallyconstructedofbituminousmaterialsuchthattheyremainincontactwiththeunderlyingmaterialevenwhenminorirregularitiesoccur.Flexiblepavementsusuallyconsistofabituminoussurfaceunderlaidwithalayerofgranularmaterialandalayerofasuitablemixtureofco

3、arseandfinematerials.CoarseaggregatesFineaggregatesTrafficloadsaretransferredbythewearingsurfacetotheunderlyingsupportingmaterialsthroughtheinterlockingofaggregates,thefrictionaleffectofthegranularmaterials,andthecohesionofthefinematerials.Flexiblepavementsarefu

4、rtherdividedintothreesubgroups:hightype,intermediatetype,andlowtype.High-typepavementshavewearingsurfacesthatadequatelysupporttheexpectedtrafficloadwithoutvisibledistressduetofatigueandarenotsusceptibletoweatherconditions.Intermediate-typepavementshavewearingsur

5、facesthatrangefromsurfacetreatedtothosewithqualitiesjustbelowthatofhigh-typepavements.Low-typepavementsareusedmainlyforlow-costroadsandhavewearingsurfacesthatrangefromuntreatedtoloosenaturalmaterialstosurface-treatedearth.®Thecomponentsofaflexiblepavementinclude
