4、isksinmanyothercases.Theeffectivereproductionnumberisalsousedintheliterature,whichisdefinedastheaveragenumberofsecondarycasesarisingfromasingletypicalinfectiveintroducedattimetintothepopulation[11].Itsmagnitudeisausefulindicatorofboththeriskofanepidemicandtheeffortreq
5、uiredtocontrolaninfection.However,thisnumberisnotathresholdparametertodeterminewhetherthediseasecaninvadethesusceptiblepopulationsuccessfully.Recently,BacaërandGuernaouipresentedageneraldefinitionofthebasicreproductionnumberinaperiodicenvironment[4].Thepurposeofourcur
6、rentpaperistoestablishthebasicreproductionratioforalargeclassofperiodiccompartmentalepidemicmodelsandshowthatitisathresholdparameterforthelocalstabilityofthedisease-freeperiodicsolution,andevenfortheglobaldynamicsundercertaincircumstances.●ThebasicreproductionratioWec
