4、ogicalsafetylevels(BSL).Thelevelsofcontainmentrangefromthelowestbiosafetylevel1(BSL-1)tothehighestatlevel4(BSL-4).Biosafetylevel1Thislevelissuitableforworkinvolvingwell-characterizedagentsnotknowntoconsistentlycausediseaseinhealthyadulthumans,andofmini
5、malpotentialhazardtolaboratorypersonnelandtheenvironment.Suchascaninehepatitis,non-pathogenicEscherichiacoli,aswellassomecellculturesandnon-infectiousbacteria.Biosafetylevel2ThislevelissimilartoBiosafetyLevel1andissuitableforworkinvolvingagentsofmodera
6、tepotentialhazardtopersonnelandtheenvironment.Itincludesvariousbacteriaandvirusesthatcauseonlymilddiseasetohumans,oraredifficulttocontractviaaerosolinalabsetting.SuchasC.difficile,mostChlamydiae,hepatitisA,B,andC,influenzaA,Lymedisease,Salmonella,mumps
7、,measles,HIV,scrapie,MRSA,andVRSA.Biosafetylevel3Thislevelisapplicabletoclinical,diagnostic,teaching,research,orproductionfacilitiesinwhichworkisdonewithindigenousorexoticagentswhichmaycauseseriousorpotentiallylethaldiseaseafterinhalation.Itincludesvar
