2、dhasbeenpreparedbyTechnicalCommitteeSchraubenundMutternmitAußenantrieboftheNormenausschussMechanischeVerbindungselemente(FastenersStandardsCommittee).IntheDecember1972editionofthisstandard,nutsofpropertyclass8(‘weldable’)werespecified.Sincethen,proofloadshavebeenincreasedand

3、newnutheightsspecifiedbothinInternationalandEuropeanStandards(cf.DINEN20898-2).Itdidnotseemadvisabletoadaptthenutheightstothoseofnutswithfullloadability,sinceweldnutmountingislargelyautomated.Changingthenutdimensionswouldthushavegivenrisetoconsiderabledifficulties(retooling)

4、,whichwouldnothavebeenoffsetbytheadvantageofaslightlyhigherresistancetostripping.Instead,thisstandardspecifiessteelwithamaximumcarboncontentof0,25%andproofloadswhicharedeemedsufficientforweldnutstobeusedtogetherwithboltsofpropertyclasseslowerthan8.8.Weldnutswithahigherloadab
