3、terpretationoftheAmericanDream.White,middle-classyouth—whomadeupthebulkofthecounterculture—hadsufficientleisuretimetoturntheirattentiontosocialissues.Thesesocialissuesincludedsupportforcivilrights,women'srights,andgayrightsmovements,andarejectionoftheVietnamWar.Hippiesbecamethelargestcountercul
4、turalgroupintheUnitedStates.Thecounterculturealsohadaccesstoamediaeagertopresenttheirconcernstoawiderpublic.Anti-warmovementAnti-warmovementTheconflictinVietnamresultedinover55,000Americandeathsandproducdalarge-scaleantiwarmovementintheUnitedStates.Studentsbecameapowerfulanddisruptiveforceandun
5、iversitycampusessparkedanationaldebateoverthewar.Asthemovement'sidealsspreadbeyondcollegecampuses,doubtsaboutthewaralsobegantoappearwithintheadministrationitself.AmassmovementbeganrisinginoppositiontotheVietnamWar,endinginthemassiveMoratoriumprotestsin1969,aswellasthemovementofresistancetoconsc
