3、iesarefrequentlyfoundondeadbodiesshortlyafterdeath.Specieswithinthisfamilydifferintheirdevelopmentaltimes,soanaccurateidentificationofeveryspeciesisnecessaryforthecorrectestimationofthepostmorteminterval(PMI).Identificationofspecimensistraditionallyperformedusingtheirmorphologi
4、calfeatures.Themorphologicalsimilarityofsarcosaphagousfliesespeciallytheireggs,larvaandpupae,posesachallengeforforensicentomologists.Thereforeamolecularmethodwasestablishedforspeciesidentification.Inthisstudy,A278basepairregionofmitochondrialDNA(mtDNA)codingforcytochromeoxidase
5、subunitone(COⅠ)wasinvestigatedforidentificationofthefollowingforensicallyimportantspeciesofsarcosaphagousfliesfromwesternChina,includingOphyracapensis(Wiedemann),Chrysomyamegacephala(Fabricius),Luciliasericata(Meigen),Luciliacuprina(Wiedemann),andBoettcheriscaperegrina(Robineau
6、2Desvoidy).TheresultsindicatedthattheCOⅠregionsequencedallowedidentificationofmajorspecies,providingseparationofcongenericspecieswithhighsupport.Incontrast,thedatacouldnotdistinguishtaxafromthesamespeciesgroup,i.e.theL.sericataandL.cuprinagroupsbecauseoflowsequencedivergence.Ke
