3、ybelievethatthereismuchmoretoteachingthanwhatisshownonstudents’ratingforms.Studentsshouldnotbeexpectedtojudgewhetherthematerialsusedareuptodateorhowwelltheteacherknowsaboutthesubject.Thesejudgmentsrequireprofessionalknowledge,whichisbestleftfortheteachers’colleag

4、ues.Ithinkstudents’ratingoftheirteachersisnecessary,butitshouldbeconductedinawaythatcanreallyshedmeaningfullightonteachers’performance.Insteadofratingtheteachers’knowledgeonthesubject,studentsshouldbeaskedtoestimatewhattheythemselveshaveleanedinacourse,andtorepor

5、tonsuchthingsasateacher’sabilitytocommunicatewithstudents,hisrelationshipwithstudents,andhisabilitytoarouseinterestinthesubject.
